Nerikomi Votive Candleholders

Three tiny cups perfect for tealights. These unique candleholders were made using techniques inspired by traditional Japanese nerikomi. They were handbuilt combining layers of stained stoneware, then fired to cone 5 and glazed with a clear gloss. 

Each cup measures 2 in wide diameter at the top, and 2.5 in tall.

I make sculptures, drawings, photographs, and performances while contemplating how intimacy, risk, and harm inform habits of care. I am interested in how care-taking happens relative to capitalism's devaluation of reproductive labor. I began working this way when I became a divorced mother of two and in turn became dependent on queer family structures for support. Born and raised in South Carolina, I have lived in Baltimore for over 20 years.

I am currently working towards a Master’s Degree in Art Therapy at Notre Dame of Maryland University, and make ceramic wares in my shed studio.
